After Shubman Gill’s century innings, the defending champions Gujarat Titans have made it to the final of IPL 2023 by defeating Mumbai Indians by 62 runs in Qualifier 2 thanks to Mohit Sharma’s dangerous bowling. Gujarat has reached the final for the second time in a row. Gujarat will face Chennai Super Kings in the final on Sunday (May 28). The title match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chasing a target of 234 runs, Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 171 runs in 18.2 overs despite Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century. Surya played an innings of 61 runs in 38 balls. Tilak Verma got out after scoring 43 runs while Cameron Green scored 30 runs. Veteran fast bowler Mohit Sharma took the most 5 wickets for Gujarat. Mumbai did not start well and wickets kept falling at intervals. As a result, Mumbai faced defeat at home to Gujarat in a do-or-die match.
Earlier, Shubman Gill took full advantage of the lifeline he got at the start and played a brilliant century, thanks to which Gujarat Titans scored 233 for 3. Gill scored a 60-ball 129 and in the process gave an excellent example of his ability to play long shots.
Shubman Gill hit seven fours and 10 sixes in his innings. Meanwhile, Gill shared a 64-ball 138-run partnership with Sai Sudarshan (43 off 31 balls) for the second wicket. Captain Hardik Pandya finally scored 28 runs off 13 balls.
This is Gill’s third century this season. He also made the highest score of his T20 career. The record for most centuries in an IPL season is held by Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler , four centuries each.
