Is Gamebred Boxing The Real Deal?

MARCH 29, 2023 CHICAGO, IL JACOB DIETRICH

YouTube boxing has made boxing into a joke. Jake Paul single handedly made boxing look like something that was made for entertainers and douche bags. Luckily for combat fans, UFC superstar, Jorge Masvidal, has his young promotion called Gamebred Boxing which is sure to be a lot of fun to both watch and be apart of. In the main event, we have OG of the boxing world, Roy Jones Jr, taking on a seasoned MMA vet, Anthony Pettis. Pettis will be able to take the ring in his home of Milwaukee, WI on Saturday and while he is still signed to the PFL, this could be the start of the next step in his career. The striking of Pettis has always been top notch and with a win over the legend in Jones Jr, Pettis will likely be showered with plenty of opportunities. He could potentially see challenges from stars of the YouTube boxing world like KSI, he could go dive straight into the professional world and compete for real belts in real divisions with promotions like TopRank or Showtime Boxing, he could become the face of Gamebred Boxing if that’s the direction that Masvidal decides he wants to see this grow, or he can return to MMA and continue on in the 2023 season of the PFL. For Jones Jr this is a great opportunity to remind us how great he really was. He will be looking to play spoiler on Saturday night when Pettis walks out in front of all his family, teammates, and friends. It appears both will be putting both their professional boxing records on the line on Saturday night and regardless of win or lose for both fighters this should be an entertaining night for all involved.

To add icing to the cake, now retired and UFC Hall of Famer, Jose Aldo will be facing off with Jeremy Stephens, the man who is infamous for being the recipient of Conor McGregor’s “who the f*** is that guy” quote. Jose Aldo retired from MMA with a professional record of 31-8 and looked just about unbeatable until Conor McGregor came along and defeated Aldo. Aldo has always been well respected and known to put on great fights and I believe we will get some version of this on Saturday night which will be great for Masvidal and his new promotion.

There are a few other fights worth noting and for more, I highly encourage checking out a podcast I cohost which can be found below or wherever you find your podcasts called Ground N’ Pound MMA Podcast. We will be discussing this on this Fridays episode as we highlight a couple fights that we are eager to start watching.
