Nigerians Warned of Hayya Card Scam in Qatar – Nigerians seeking employment opportunities in Qatar have been cautioned against falling victim to a fraudulent scheme offering work visas using the Hayya Card. The Hayya Card served as the entry permit during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, issued to visitors, fans, and officials. However, some individuals and agents are exploiting the extended validity of the Hayya Card, charging exorbitant fees with false promises of job opportunities in Qatar.
President of the Nigerian in Diaspora Organisation in Qatar (NIDO-Qatar), Ajibade Lateef, revealed that Nigerians are being charged up to four million Nigerian Naira to be added to the Hayya Card entry permit, which allows holders to invite up to three family members or friends. Lateef advised Nigerians to be cautious and follow due process while applying for a visa, warning that the Hayya Card can only be accepted as a form of tourist visa and cannot be changed to a work visa.
Despite the extension of the validity of the Hayya Card until January 24, 2024, Lateef noted that some Nigerians are still misinformed about its status. He has encountered over 15 cases of individuals who have fallen prey to this scam, leaving them stranded and out of pocket.

NIDO-Qatar has issued a statement warning Nigerians to be wary of these fake promises and to follow due process while applying for a visa. The terms of the extended Hayya Card permit include hotel reservation or accommodation with family or friends in Qatar, a valid passport, health insurance to cover the period of stay, and a return ticket.
Millions of visitors entered Qatar using the Hayya Card during the World Cup, making it easier for them to explore the country. However, some unscrupulous individuals have taken advantage of the popularity of the Hayya Card to perpetrate fraud. It is imperative for Nigerians to be vigilant and cautious to avoid falling victim to such scams.
